Visitors flying to Rapid City will have a new piece of artwork to welcome them to the Black Hills.
As part of the twenty point five million dollar renovation project at rapid city regional airport, the second of five pieces of art was installed outside the west end of the terminal.
The bronze sculpture is entitled "Sioux–per Boy" and was created by Hot Springs artist Matt Lanz.
The message behind the piece is about dreaming big and believing anything is possible.
Lanz is one of five local artists chosen to have his artwork displayed at the airport and says is grateful for the opportunity.
The artist said "It's pretty awesome...it's pretty neat. You know everybody that visits here to the state of South Dakota that flies in from around the world, they're going to walk around and see this thing. It's just really neat to have my first break and have it here"
"Sioux–per Boy" stands over twelve feet tall and weighs in at 16 hundred pounds.
The area around the sculpture will be landscaped in the near future to improve the environment surrounding the piece.
