Public to help set scope of SDGF&P review

Posted:

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) _ Officials from Gov. Dennis Daugaard's office say the public will get a chance to help determine the issues covered in an external review of the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department.

The governor's chief of staff, Dusty Johnson, told the Game, Fish and Parks Commission on Monday that the review will focus on the state Wildlife Division. He says the review by an outside consultant will look at how the division handles controversial subjects, such as research and management of mountain lions and elk.

Johnson says Department Secretary Jeff Vonk suggested the independent study. Companies will submit proposals this fall to conduct the study.

Johnson says landowners, hunters and anglers will be asked to submit ideas for issues to be studied.
