Some South Dakota sons and daughters are remembered Wednesday for their service to this country.
The Fallen Heroes Banner Display made a stop at Rapid City's Main Street Square. The display pays tribute to 35 South Dakota servicemen and women who were killed in duty as part of operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Each soldier has a banner in their memory detailing their name, rank and hometown.
Jerry Duba, co-chairman of the Fallen Heroes Banner Committee based in Pierre, says the display was started with a specific goal in mind.
"It's important that we don't forget that these young men and women made the sacrifice and we keep their face out there and we continue to know and appreciate why we've got the freedoms we have," Duba said.
The display will make an appearance at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally this summer.
