Mayor Kooiker's 2013 budget proposal

Posted: Updated:

Rapid City's Mayor Sam Kooiker presented his 2013 budget at Monday night's City Council Meeting. Tuesday it became public on the City Council's website.

According to the city's website, the 2013 budget is more than $136 million. Forty percent of that proposed figure would go to enterprise funds, 37% to general funds, and 23% to other special revenue funds.

While it's almost $1.8 million less than last year's budget, Mayor Kooiker is proposing to give $2.5 million more to the general fund, which is about $50 million.

He is requesting the city not include either of the 2013 property tax which would increase the overall budget by a little more than $700,000.

Kooiker's proposal is not final. The City Council has nearly 3 months to approve an official 2013 budget.
