Sturgis bans all fireworks - KOTA Territory News

Sturgis bans all fireworks

Posted:

The city of Sturgis is taking a strict stance on the use of fireworks in city limits.

A ban on all fireworks was issued Tuesday. This ban includes the use of sparklers and other small fireworks.

The public fireworks show scheduled for July 4 has also been canceled. The 4th of July Community Celebration & Picnic will still be held.

The city credits the ban to recent high temperatures and low relative humidity combined with a number of large fires already burning in the Black Hills.

City officials say every precaution should be taken to prevent any additional fires in and around the Black Hills.

The Sturgis Tractor Pull begins at 1:00 Wednesday followed by Mini-Sprint races and a Free Picnic.

The public is invited to attend this free event at the Sturgis Fairgrounds located on Ball Park Road in Sturgis.
