Fourth of July fireworks shows canceled in a number of KOTA Territory cities

Posted:

Extreme fire dangers has caused the list of cities banning fireworks in the Black Hills to enlarge.

All firework shows in Rapid City have been canceled this week because of the high temperatures, low moisture and humidity. Canceled shows include: Elks Club, Arrowhead Country Club, Post 22 and Memorial Park.

The Fourth of July Fireworks Show in Lead and Custer have also been scrapped. But Custer's Old Time Country Fourth celebration is still planned for July 3 and July 4.

Belle Fourche and Sturgis will continue their fireworks shows but the use of personal fireworks is banned.  The use of certain novelty fireworks (party poppers, snappers, sparklers, toy caps and flitter sparklers) is permitted in Rapid City for those who want to celebrate the holiday with a bang.
