Save the VA campaign releases counter-proposal

Posted:

It took more than six months but a group working to save an area VA Hospital has revealed its solution to retain healthcare.

The Save the VA Campaign Central Committee revealed it's 40-page proposal at the Mueller Center in Hot Springs Saturday night. Committee and community members have been working to retain health care services for area veterans since December, when the Veterans Administration released its proposal, calling for the closure of the city's VA Medical Center.

"The core of the proposal is to create something we call "Veterans Industry" and that would be a profitable industry that would employ veterans that are under-employed and un-employed throughout the area and also provide an outlet for compensated work therapy," said Rich Gross, a member of the campaign.

"Veterans Industry" would cost up to $26 million and could take a year to implement if approved by the VA.
