Two more mountain lions wandered into residential neighborhoods this week, prompting action by the South Dakota Game Fish and Parks Department.
Big Game Biologist John Kanta says the first was killed Tuesday night.
The one year old male lion was spotted in a tree on Nike Road, just north of the Rushmore Mall. He was shot and killed.
Kanta says later that night, a young female lion was shot in downtown Custer. She was six to seven months old and appeared sick.
Four cougars have been killed by state wildlife officials and Rapid City police in a span of 11 days.
Kanta says it's not rare for lions to wander into residential areas, it happens every year.
