18 homes near Sheridan lake were issued evacuation warnings last night due to a fire at the Dakota Point recreation area.

The fire was estimated to be 200 acres in size by early Wednesday afternoon.

A Type III Incident Management Team has been ordered and is en-route.

The fire is currently zero percent contained.

"We're trying to keep it in the boxes we have lined up in the map and so far our
lines are holding," said Fire Planning Chief Chris Stover.

Resources currently on scene include: 60 firefighters, a helicopter, three engines, several overhead, and several law enforcement officers. More resources have been ordered.

Sheridan Lake Road has been closed from the Spring Creek Picnic Area to the North Boat Launch Area.  Fire officials are asking the public to avoid accessing Sheridan Lake near Dakota Point and to give the firefighters room to do their job.

A red flag warning is in effect until midnight Wednesday.

The cause is under investigation by the U.S. Forest Service.
