Car burglaries sweep Rapid City

Posted: Updated:

Police report a rash of car burglaries in Rapid City Monday night. Sixteen cars were reported burglarized.

Eleven of those cars were at Dean's Auto Shop on East Denver street.  Owners say all the cars broken into were unlocked, and nothing of value appears to have been stolen.

Stereo systems were left untouched, leading owners and police to speculate that the intruders may be juveniles.

Workers say it wouldn't be the first time neighborhood kids have jumped the fence.    "You go to get your car repaired and its trusted in a fenced yard and the kids are climbing the fences or whoever is doing it, I can't really tell you but be aware that someone in this area is going around checking vehicles,"said Mechanic James Stands.

A truck parked across the street from the repair shop was also reported stolen Tuesday morning. The Rapid City police department is investigating.
