Matt Koch speaks to Rapid City Chamber of Commerce on economy

Posted:

The Vice President of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Matt Koch today spoke to the Rapid City Chamber.

Koch spoke of the importance of North American energy to the future and security of the economy. He says utilizing these resources creates jobs.

But recent policies, such as the ban on offshore drilling, are putting those resources out of reach.

And according to Koch, are making it impossible for our economy to expand.

"You're looking at thousands of jobs that are going to be created here in the U–S. Not just from oil and natural gas but from renewable development as well," said Koch.

"One of the very important things is the emphasis on using the resources we have and not promoting policies that preclude the use of those resources," said David Emery, President and CEO of Black Hills Corporation, and U.S. Chamber of Commerce Board Member.

The Keystone XL pipeline was a topic in that discussion.

Some say that project alone would bring 250,000 permanent jobs.
