Heavy rain causes flash flooding in northeast SD

Posted:

Heavy rainfall led to flash flooding in parts of eastern South Dakota.

The National Weather Service reported that Watertown got as much as 4 inches of rain in less than two hours early Wednesday. That led to street flooding, and the flooding of as many as 10 rooms at the Budget One Motel.

The weather service early Wednesday issued a flash flood warning for northeast South Dakota after as much as 6 inches of rain fell.

In Huron, officials say lightning might have caused an electrical transformer explosion that cut power to some residents for about two hours.
