Building permits issued for residential projects on the rise

Posted:

The housing market was hit hard during the worst economic crisis since the depression.

But permits for residential building projects, are on the rise.

Permits in 2011 were up from 2009, from 155 to nearly 220. So far this year there are more than 260 permits issued, paving the way for a strong increase.

Black Hills Home Builders Association President Jeff Lage says factors such as low mortgage rates, and reasonable prices for building materials are helping with the steady growth rate.

"It's growing, so all we can do is keep hoping. We don't hit the big peaks and we don't hit the big valleys but as long as we can maintain or even get back to normal," said Lage.

Many of those permits issued are from multi-family developments, those include apartment buildings.
