A new parking enforcement fee increase takes effect Friday.
The new ordinance, voted on by the city council, enforces a heftier fine for Rapid City drivers who repeatedly park illegally.
Officers are now able to put a boot on vehicles with five or more outstanding tickets or with unpaid parking tickets totaling more than one hundred dollars.
Lt. James Johns said this new ordinance makes it easier for the city to collect outstanding funds."They could continue this indefinitely while sitting on up to $440 in unpaid fines."
The fee to remove a boot was increased from $50 to $100.
