Children First: Fatherhood First

With Father's Day around the corner, dads and their children are planning ways to spend time together.

But that time together shouldn't just be for the holiday.

Steve Ringo spends time with his daughters by taking them to the park, Storybook Island, or to ball games as much as possible.

But he knows not every child has that opportunity.

And to help them, Ringo volunteers at Youth and Family Services in Rapid City as part of the Fatherhood First program.

It aims to shatter the common stereotype that men take care of the car, yard, and finances while mothers handle all of the emotional and psychological nurturing.

"You gotta make sacrifices.  I mean I love to be at my cabin down on the Platte River south of Omaha, but when these two came along, you can't do all of that stuff," said Ringo. "You just have to take the responsibility.  It's not really that hard," he added.

So far this year, YFS has offered more than 90 events geared toward dads.
