Blimp flying over west Rapid City attracts attention

Posted:

You may have noticed a large white object over west Rapid today, is it a bird? A plane? It's actually a surveillance blimp.

The Aerostar Blimp is part of the Golden Coyote Training Exercise.

Deborah Husby, Project Manager for Aerostar International, says they are here to show leaders of the exercise how the blimp could benefit an emergency response, especially for natural disasters such as floods. She says it would be used to monitor flooded areas allowing for less troops.

The Aerostar is made right here in South Dakota at its Sioux Falls plant.
