Mark Vargo takes Pennington County State's Attorney race over Glenn Brenner

Mark Vargo took 67 percent of the vote Tuesday night on the way to defeating incumbent Glenn Brenner in the primary race for Pennington County State's Attorney.

"I'm very pleased I went into this because I felt it was a very important thing to do, and the support that I've gotten from all different sectors of the community, the things that I've done and learned during this campaign are absolutely amazing to me," Vargo said Tuesday night.

Vargo praised his campaign team for helping him reach voters and earn a broad cross section of support.

For Glenn Brenner, it's the end to 16 years as Pennington County State's Attorney.

"There are two winners in this: Mark and myself," Brenner said.  "That's because I got to do a job that I've just loved and was passionate about for 16 years of my life so I'm thankful for that."

Brenner says he hopes to work with Vargo during the transition period.  He says he hopes the office will keep a direction of holding offenders accountable and fighting for victims.

He says he will look forward to whatever public service he can do in the future to help youth in the community and to fight for children's and victim's rights.
