Hookah lounge loses liquor license

Posted:

A Rapid City hookah lounge has lost its license to sell alcohol.

On the recommendation of Police Chief Steve Allender, Ifrits Hookah lounge was denied license renewal at Monday night's city council meeting.

Council members cited past compliance failures and the recent DUI arrest of one of the lounge's owner.

A report by a license compliance inspector indicates the lounge's co-owner was arrested for common nuisance earlier this year.

It also shows another employee was arrested for furnishing alcohol to minors in February.

Alderman Ron Sasso says the council saw a cloud of suspicion around the lounge, as Chief Allender discussed the allegations of synthetic drugs being sold on the property.

Sasso says, in the end, it was easy an easy decision to deny the renewal.
