U.S. House candidates' Election Day momentum

Posted:

The two candidates seeking the democratic nomination for South Dakota's lone U.S. House seat are both claiming Election Day momentum.

Thirty-seven-year-old Matt Varilek, a former member of Senator Tim Johnson's staff, faces 60-year-old Jeff Barth, a Minnehaha County Commissioner and retired telephone company technician.

The winner challenges Republican Representative Kristi Noem in the general election. Both candidates spent Monday going door-to-door, visiting coffee shops and appearing on radio and television interviews.

Varilek says his work for Johnson taught him how to get things done in Congress. Barth is running as an outsider, criticizing Congress for not getting anything done.
