The land where the founders of Rapid City once camped is still in the works of becoming another citizen destination.
It's the largest of three major projects that were asked for by the people of Rapid City. Outdoor volleyball courts, a trail head and a shelter are only a few pieces of the puzzle that will make up the new and improved Founders Park. A new hiking trail and bridge will also be added into the mix.
Jerry Cole, director of parks and recreation, says that the park will be another jewel for the area.
"This is becoming one of the most important parks in the system because it's right in the middle of the Leonard Swanson trail. You can go right five miles or left five miles from this point and that's what people are starting to do," Cole said.
The parking lot will hopefully be open next month and all facilities should open around November.
