SD to mull increase in scholarship program

Posted:

South Dakota's Board of Regents is slated to decide this summer whether it's time to ask the state to invest more scholarship dollars in its high school graduates.

More than 8,570 high school graduates in South Dakota have qualified for the Opportunity  Scholarship program since it became available in 2004.

The program offers $5,000 in scholarships over four years to students who take advanced courses in high school, have an ACT score of 24 or higher, and go to a college or university in South Dakota.

Officials say there is concern that if the scholarship is not increased, students could look for financial deals elsewhere.
