Mental Health Awareness and Suicide Prevention Day event

According to Behavior Management Systems, 1 in every 4 Americans has a diagnosable mental health disorder that is treatable.

That was the message at today's Mental Health Awareness and Suicide Prevention Day event held at Rapid City's Main Street Square.

Event organizers say it's important to raise awareness and break through stereotypes about mental illness.

For Daniel Hinton, 22, today has special meaning.

"I've gone through my battle with mental illness from a very young age. I manage it with medication and therapy, all provided by Behavior Management Systems- something that when I grew up in Florida I didn't have, but now that I've moved to South Dakota these resources have been available to me," said Hinton.

The event featured free food, local musicians, and guest speakers sharing their stories
