St. Elizabeth Seton students honored for supporting troops

Posted:

It may have looked like arts and crafts for the students at one area elementary, but Governor Dennis Daugaard is honoring those students for their artwork, and more importantly, their efforts to support our troops overseas.

Governor Daugaard proclaimed May 7th as 'St Elizabeth Seton Elementary' day in South Dakota, to spotlight the humanitarian efforts of more than 400 students.

The young people have been sending care packages and decorating and designing pillow cases for military men and women for the past five years.

For those deployed, the pillow cases especially provide great comfort in times of uncertainty and violence.

"Knowing that even in the chaos of war, that people at home still care and love us, it's a great encouragement for us," said Safety Officer with the National Guard Lonny Hofer.

The school mails about 150 care packages and pillow cases every year.
