Traffic increases at Rapid City airport

Posted:

After pulling through the slowest three months of the year, Rapid City regional airport leaders say things are looking up.

Although the numbers of people boarding and arriving at the airport in February decreased 2% over the same time last year, shifts in the airline industry appear to be favorable to increasing traffic.
In part due to slight decreases in air fares and greater seating capacity on planes, Airport Director Cameron Humphres says March numbers already show a 5.7% percent increase in airport traffic.

"We'll have a new concourse and terminal building to support the tourist, it does look promising. When we look at the forecast, we're looking at even to slightly ahead of numbers from last year," said Humphres.

Humphres says the airport serves twice the number of people during June, July and August as it does during the first three months of the year.
