If you build it, they will come.
At least, that's what some in KOTA Territory hope will happen if they follow through with a new athletic complex nicknamed the "Field of Dreams."
The Gillette City Council will look at a master plan for the complex at the next meeting.
Groups and consultants have been planning the 320-acre project for more than a year. It includes 25 baseball fields, plus multi-purpose fields, a BMX park, and indoor events centers.
But some worry about the $90 million price tag.
"I mean, it's going to be all for the benefit of kids, but it's a lot of money for something that we already have," said Gillette's Adrienne Oliver.
"We have existing fields; they're at capacity now," responded Gillette public information officer Joe Lunne. "So on our population of 30,000, they're full. We're also seeing a huge increase in the number of kids who are being born."
Lunne also stressed the project is being planned in stages over the next couple decades, so that $90 million won't be spent all at once.
The Council will vote on the measure on May 7.
