Rapid City Airport remodel 80% complete

Posted:

After more than fourteen months and a little less than $20 million dollars, Rapid City's airport face lift is close to completion.

The remodel is the first to take place at the airport since it was built in 1988.

Airport administrators say they hope the construction, which includes a new concourse, and increased capacity, will extend the life span of the facility.

Airport director Cameron Humphries says the expansion is timely, as close to 300,000 people come through the airport every year.

"We're growing at about 3.2% per year on average. so when we look out over the next 25 years we're looking at a fairly substantial increase in the number of people we're going to have to facilitate here," said Humphres.

Humphres says the project is still under it's $20 million dollar budget so far.
The construction is expected to wrap up by the end of May.
