New mayor draws up plans for Box Elder

Posted:

Just seven votes made all the difference Tuesday night in Box Elder.
Long time mayor Al Dial was beat out of office by ward three Alderman Bill Griffiths Tuesday.

Griffiths, a 26 year air force veteran, says he's eager to improve on the economic ground work laid by his predecessor.

He says his main initiatives are the elderly, children and commerce.

Griffiths hopes bring school buses back to many Box Elder school children living along North Ellsworth road, who lost their bus funding last year.

He also aims to unite local economic groups to help bring commercial businesses and jobs to the city.

"We have to be able to hire our own kids and our own people in our own town. And we just don't have enough of that. So we need to get with economic development, chamber of
commerce, get them working together and bring some business here," said Griffiths.

Outgoing mayor Al Dial says he will not request a recount, but he's disappointed with the way Griffiths ran his campaign.

He says false promises about lowering sewer and water costs may have tricked voters.

Griffiths says his words were taken out of context and he will work to halt any future increases to those utilities.
