Mail sorting to stay in Rapid City

Posted:

The U.S. Postal Service has been experiencing declining mail volume and ballooning budget deficits for years, prompting the post office to consider closing or consolidating outlets.

The postal service announced Thursday it has decided to keep the Rapid City processing and distribution facility as is.  A study showed no significant improvements needed to be made to efficiency or services.  The Rapid City facility was considered for closure.

But the USPS decided to move all mail processing operations from a facility in Huron to Sioux Falls.  A specific date for that transition has not yet been set.
