A US senator blames the lack of presidential leadership for the country's crippling deficit.
Senator John Thune of South Dakota criticizes unchecked government growth and calls from democrats to raise taxes.
That was his message at Wednesday's town hall meeting in Belle Fourche.
The republican says the economic climate needs to improve before the deficit can be remedied.
Thune also called for more bipartisan cooperation on common causes, such as domestic energy.
"The tax rate on businesses is too high, we ought to get it
down to where we're more competitive in the world market place. We ought to be
able to decide as democrat and republican that we need an energy plan that puts
all of the above, domestic American energy on the table," said Senator Thune.
Thune says a bill to approve the Keystone Pipeline under a commerce clause, could reach congress in the coming weeks.
