Mild Wyoming winter means quicker construction pace, lower costs

KOTA Territory hasn't seen much wintry weather this winter.

That's making things easier for the construction industry.

Ptolemy Data Systems CEO Ryan Mulholland said construction on the company's new data center is ahead of schedule.

That's due in part to the warm temperatures and lack of snow.

Harsh winter conditions can slow progress and raise costs.

That's why some construction companies put off doing more work until the end of winter.

"Frost can add a lot of cost to construction, so to remove that frost and pull that frost out makes it more expensive," said Mullinax Construction Supply co-owner Aaron Mullinax. "So most people would just probably end up going 'til spring."

Mullinax said his company isn't really seeing much more business than in colder years, but contractors are making more progress.
