Rapid City Council approves TIF for more School of Mines housing

Posted:

The Rapid City Council approves an ordinance that would make the expansion of School of Mines student housing possible.

The $1.6 million TIF would be used to purchase and demolish low income housing apartment buildings between Elm and Birch Avenue.

Two multi story, privately owned apartment buildings would be built to provide additional housing for School of Mines students.

Concerns from the public included having the city spend money on another TIF, and displacing the renters who live in the building.

Ward 2 Alderman Steve Laurenti was the lone nay vote.
