Rapid City Council rejects ordnance to turn property commercial

Posted:

The Rapid City Council rejects an ordinance that would change one property from residential to commercial.

The plot is located on the northwest corner of Catron Blvd and Sheridan Lake Road.

At Tuesday's meeting, more than 10 community members spoke out against the new designation.

They say it would increase traffic in the quiet neighborhood and would decrease property values.

"This is a residential neighborhood. All of the usage around that area as you've heard described is residential. All of the people who live there want to maintain that residential character of that neighborhood," said James Olson from Rapid City.

The property was bought by the Sundby family. They want to turn the land into a real estate office.

City council members unanimously voted against the measure.
