State of Sheridan: Parts of economic growth are legs of stool

Posted:

A KOTA Territory mayor described three components of economic development as the "legs of a stool" in his State of the City address to City Council Tuesday.

Sheridan Mayor Dave Kinskey said the first leg is education.

He stressed the city's quality education system attracts employers to the area.

But he also noted Sheridan hasn't been immune to unemployment, and better job training programs could help.

The mayor said the second leg of the stool is entrepreneurial culture, something he says the city is committed to.

That rang true to Sheridan's Alfred Hill.

"Investment has a two-fold profit," he said after the address. "The first time when it's spent, it creates economy, and secondly, the production from investment continues to pay off."

The third leg of Kinskey's stool is quality of life.

He said that has to go hand-in-hand with job development.

The mayor even got a little chuckle during the address when he proposed the federal government take a look at Wyoming to learn how to balance a budget.
