Presidents day in the City of Presidents

Posted:

In the City of Presidents, you don't have to look past the downtown area to be reminded of the special honor our Presidents hold in Rapid City.

The 'City of Presidents' project began as a marriage of commerce and history twelve years ago by a Michigan business man.

Since then all 42 former presidents have been placed throughout downtown as part of a $2 million dollar privately funded project.
Creator Don Perdue says the presidents boost downtown economic development by drawing from the nearly three million visitors that see Mount Rushmore every year.

"We don't have to get these people to South Dakota, we just got to get them off the hill and into town. So I think that's the basic benefit of the economic side of the presidents and it does too tie into the same emotions as why you came to see Mount Rushmore," said Perdue.

President Obama's statue is ready, and will be installed once he leaves office.
Perdue says he also has a Founding Fathers museum in the works, that would be located in Rockerville.
