Local man brings global anti-poverty organization to Rapid City

Come rain or snow, Rapid City man Jedediah Beadle has made it his mission to feed the hungry.

Beadle founded the Rapid City chapter of the global anti-war group Food Not Bombs two years ago.
Every Wednesday since then, at eleven am, Beadle distributes vegan food like vegetarian chili and soup in the Roosevelt park area.

Beadle makes all the food himself, and funds his efforts partially from donations. In the summer, many meals are donated by local farmers.

Beadle says he serves up to forty people a week, and dispenses nutrition to the areas neediest residents.

"[We serve] mostly lower income and a lot of alcoholics who aren't allowed at the mission. It gets pretty crazy sometimes," said Beadle.

Beadle says his stand has been closed down by Rapid City Police in the past for causing a "nuisance", but will continue to serve the homeless regardless.

The aim of Food Not Bombs is to call attention to poverty and homelessness in society by sharing food in public places.
