Tax credits are your friends

Tax season is upon us and experts want to ensure you receive the biggest refund possible by taking advantage of tax credits.

Most people dread filing their taxes each year.

But Terry Mills with Consumer Credit Counseling Services of the Black Hills says it shouldn't be that way. He says most people qualify and are eligible for a tax credit; they just have to do a little research.

There are credits for home, business and medical expenses. There's even one for retirement. But the earned income tax credit is expected to be the largest one this year.

"It's mostly for families who make less than $50,000, however, even if you don't have children you can still apply for an earned income tax credit," Mills said.

Mills says the average earned income tax credit was $2,200 last year.
