Wyoming bill to prohibit local gun control dies

Posted:

Local governments in a KOTA Territory state will still have control over gun laws.

The Wyoming House of Representatives voted Wednesday to reject a bill that would prevent local governments from passing laws to restrict guns.

The bill was partly in response to a Casper City Council ruling last year that banned people from openly carrying weapons at government meetings.

And while local governments still have control, not everyone agrees it's the right way to go.

"They shouldn't stop them, not local," agreed a Sheridan who wanted to go only by Max. "I think everybody knows what's going on in the local community."

"But that doesn't give them the power to change state law to benefit individual communities," argued Steve Hamilton of Gillette.

This being a budget session in Wyoming, the bill needed two-thirds of legislator support to be considered at all.

It fell two votes short.
