Rapid City looks to alleviate future parking concerns, now that construction on the downtown President's Plaza is slated to begin.
Rapid City council members say utilizing the Rapid Ride Shuttle Service could be a solution to the expected loss of parking.
With the Saint Joseph Street lot closed for construction, drivers will have access to the New York Street and Seventh Street lots. The shuttle could provide service from the lots to downtown.
Council members approved the ordinance Monday night and it's now up to Rapid Ride to come up with a detailed proposal.
Ward 4 Alderman Jordan Mason says he hopes to help the people who will lose the Sixth Street lot.
"That will not be available during the construction of the President's Plaza. With that being taken into effect, we are going to have a number of downtown businesses that their employees will not have parking," said Mason.
Alderman Mason says he believes shuttle plans could be finalized in the coming weeks.
