Rapid City pizza places look to cash in on Super Bowl Sunday

Posted:

Super bowl Sunday means big business for pizza places across the country, and here in KOTA Territory.

Staff at the Pizza Hut on West Main Street in Rapid City, say work was at a fast pace, but a good pace Sunday.

They estimated they would make more than a hundred pizzas-- almost twice the normal amount for an average Sunday.

Pizza Hut was fully staffed, with six to seven delivery drivers, not to mention a big increase in carryout traffic.

Shift manager Daniel Hilton says he usually sees two rushes: before the game and during halftime, when the phone is ringing non-stop.

Hilton says a new trend involves people calling in their order ahead, and setting a time to be delivered.

"It actually helps out a lot because we can make the pizzas ahead of time so it's not just spur of the moment, I need 10 pizzas right now. A lot of customers are really conscientious about if they have a larger order to call ahead," said Hilton.

He says he estimates 20 to 30 percent of the orders today were made in advance.
