Children First: The hottest toys of 2011

On any given day when the holiday's roll around, parents can be seen wandering toy aisles in confusion, Overcome by the colors, sounds and vibrant packaging of the seasons hottest toys.

While some of the most sought after toys will look familiar, this season's toy trends reveal: technology is king.

"Traditional toys that now have an electronic addition to them. kids are especially going to want toys that are going to interact," said Scott Smith, manager at Toys R Us in Rapid City.

But interaction is just the tip of the iceberg. These toys can sing, dance and even tell jokes.

"Motion is just more visually entertaining, it's going to keep the child's interest longer. More play value out of it," said Smith.

And this year, toys are going faster, and farther than ever before.

"[The air hogs hyper actives spin master] is probably the neatest one. It's an air hogs remote controlled car. This car actually goes 20 miles an hour so it's a very popular toy this year," said Smith.

"The nerf Vortex vigilion is a fun way to play tag indoors and outdoors. It can launch up to 50 feet," said Smith.

Even avid gamers will be surprised at how video games are upping interactivity.

"With Skylanders, you put the character onto the launcher and then the character goes into the game. You can take it to your friends house and play your character in his game. Manufacturers are creating ways to expand your home gaming systems and to get more out of them," said Smith.

While these toys are built more for fun than educational value ... Smith says they will certainly ensure a happy Christmas morning.

And while you're shopping, remember, toys r us will be accepting donations for the 'toys for tots' program through December eighth.

Cash donations will also be accepted right up until Christmas eve.
