OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Nikko Jenkins has pleaded no contest in four Omaha killings last year. Jenkins was charged with four counts of murder and changed his pleas from not guilty at a hearing Wednesday morning. All of the shootings occurred within a 10-day period last August, soon after Jenkins was freed from prison. A three-judge panel will decide whether Jenkins gets the death penalty.
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Governor Dave Heineman says he's pleased with the tax-cut bills Nebraska lawmakers have approved this session. But he wishes they would have passed proposals to lower top income-tax rates and the percentage of farm land that can be taxed. Heineman says lawmakers have approved a combined $412 million in tax reductions over the next five years.
TRENTON, Neb. (AP) - Authorities are investigating the death of an 18-year-old man whose body was found last weekend near Palisade southwest Nebraska. Austin Wright was last seen in McCook more than a month ago and his family had reported him missing. There's no information yet on how he died.
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Police say they still don't know how a three-year-old boy ended up inside a claw crane machine at a Lincoln bowling alley. He was found at the bowling alley across the street from his apartment Monday after his mother called 911 to say he was missing. Police say there are no signs the boy had been neglected and no charges have been filed.
