Belle Fourche River runs high and fast

Posted:

The Belle Fourche River is causing some problems from Wyoming through western South Dakota.

During the weekend, 100 Wyoming volunteer firefighters manned a sandbag brigade just in case they need to keep the Belle Fourche River from swamping Hulett and nearby roads.  They put more than 2,000 sandbags together and placed them in areas where flooding is possible.

At Devils Tower, the park service had to close a camp ground.

In the South Dakota town of Belle Fourche, the swollen river isn't causing any evacuations but quite a bit of park area is pretty soggy.

The Crook County, Wyoming emergency management office reminds people to avoid driving through roads covered in water and recreational activities near the rain–swollen waterways.
