A public meeting will be held in Sundance, Wyo., to discuss the Cook Lake recreation closure area.
The meeting is Tuesday, Sept. 9, from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Crook County Courthouse basement, 309 East Cleveland Street.
Forest Service staff will present an update of the current situation, provide background information of the area and answer questions.
The Cook Lake recreation area was closed for public safety. Because of continued rain and severe storms, the soil is saturated and could possibly cause a landslide.
Staff from the Black Hills National Forest, South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, and the Wyoming Geological Survey continue to assess the area and collect data about the geological information that has been gathered over the past few months.
The Cook Lake Complex consists of 32 campsites and 12 picnic units. The complex includes two hiking trails, Cook Lake Trail and Cliff Swallow Trail.
