BOX ELDER, S.D. -

Sen. Tim Johnson spent the day at Ellsworth Air Force Base meeting with Air Force brass and touring the deployment center.

The deployment center is one of the many the facilities on base Johnson made sure had funding during his time in the senate.

As chairman of the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations subcommittee, Johnson has secured nearly $200 million in federal funding for Ellsworth.

This includes funding for a new base operations building, B-1 training facility, military housing, base entry and perimeter gates and the new deployment center.

Because of budget issues actual dollars have been scarce. Johnson says he would like to see more money allocated to the base in the future. "I'm proud of the assets Ellsworth Air Force Base brings us, including the fire station, infrastructure and what not," Johnson said.

With Johnson retiring soon, he says he is confident Ellsworth will continue to grow and prosper.
