TORRINGTON, Wyo. -

A KOTA Territory man has been elected to help serve more than two million people.

Torrington native Gerald "Jake" Jacobs is one of 12 national officers for the American Legion.

He was sworn in as the National Vice Commander Thursday at a ceremony in Charlotte.

Jacobs says the American Legion is a wonderful veterans organization, and looks forward to serving at the second highest position.

"I really like the American Legion," says Jacobs. "It's been a big part of my life for many years now. It was just an amazing opportunity. I feel really honored to represent Wyoming and the American Legion."

Jacobs took the oath along with National Commander Michael Helm who hails from McCook, Nebraska.
