SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. -

A program to prepare parents and health care providers for pediatric emergencies will be coming to the panhandle.

Regional West Medical Center has partnered with Children's Hospital Colorado to host a pediatric emergency medicine, trauma and burn symposium in Scottsbluff.

The symposium will offer providers with the latest guidelines for children through presentations and hands-on skills training.

Trauma program manager Shermaine Sterkel says that this symposium is a great tool to learn important information about the care provided in the community.

"The importance of this for us is that we are rural and we have a service to provide care to our pediatric population," says Sterkel. "And so we need to know how to manage and initially stabilize those patients to get them on to more definitive care."

There is still room to register for the symposium. It begins September 3rd at the HARMS Center at 7 a.m.
