MINATARE, Neb.- Visitors to Lake Minatare have been enjoying a fuller-than-average lake this year.

Park Superintendent Dan Thornton says the water level at the lake this year is at least 10 feet higher than it was last year, and people have been enjoying the excess water.

The lake filled up this weekend with boaters, swimmers, campers and fishers enjoying the last bit of summer.

Gering resident Amanda Urwin says her family definitely prefers the fuller lake.

"Oh, we love it. We camped last year, and it was way low. We were camped actually kind of in the middle of the lake, and so is great this year," Urwin said.

The lake's water level reached almost record lows last year because a lot of water was taken out to help irrigation efforts during the drought and work was also done on the outlet structure.
