CHADRON, NEB. -

A dozen marijuana plants are now in police custody, along with the duo suspected of growing them.

The WING Drug Task Force assisted the Chadron Police Department after receiving information of a marijuana grow operation at #30 Pony Park in Chadron.

Authorities smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the trailer; and during a search of the home they found 12 marijuana plants, grow lights, plant food, potting mix, and drug paraphernalia.

Arrested were 18-year-old Chastity Conlkin and 20 -year-old Taquan Kelly on charges of manufacturing marijuana within 1,000 feet of a park. The charge is a Class II felony, and they could face up to 50 years in prison if convicted.

While WING agents were searching #30 Pony Park, WING setup a purchase of marijuana at #58 Pony Park, Chadron. WING agents purchased marijuana from a 16 year old juvenile male inside #58 Pony Park. The 16 year old juvenile male left #58 Pony Park and was stopped by Chadron Police Officers and detained along with a passenger; an 18 year old male, Karlon T. Stark. The driver and passenger were taken to the Chadron Police Department and the vehicle was towed to the Chadron Police and subsequently searched with a search warrant.

Officers found similar packaged baggies of suspected marijuana in a bundle, along with two suspected marijuana pipes, other plastic sandwich baggies containing less than an ounce of marijuana and two cellular phones. Stark was issued a citation for possession of marijuana less than one ounce and released. The 16 year old juvenile male was arrested and detained at the Youth Detention Center in Scotts Bluff County.
