While some families waited inside for free health care Saturday, others stood outside across the street for free H1N1 and seasonal flu vaccinations for children six months to 18 years old. With previous vaccination clinics canceled, the South Dakota Department of Health and Pennington County Emergency Management hosted one Saturday to give more families the chance to vaccinate their children.
"It was an opportunity," said father Mike Krebs. "I know the vaccines are short...and we knew they'd be here today so we came down a little early."
Saturday's clinic had approximately 1200 seasonal flu and 2300 H1N1 vaccines. Emergency Manager Anthony Carbajal said the state will get more shipments, but it is unknown when they will arrive.
