A Rapid City woman pleads guilty to taking her two kids out of the country without the consent of their father.
Amber Solay, 45, fled to the United Arab Emirates with her 5- and 7-year-old children in July.
Friday, she pled guilty to a felony for taking their kids. In exchange, the state dropped the remaining charges. Prosecutors say Solay got rid of her house, sold her car and bought three one-way tickets to Abu Dhabi.
Solay's attorney says there are plenty of mitigating factors that he plans to present at her sentencing next month.
Judge Lori Wilbur also ordered a mental exam at the state's request. State's Attorney Glenn Brenner says he didn't phrase his request for a mental exam correctly in court, leaving people with the impression he asked for the exam because Solay "talks to God."
Friday afternoon, Brenner clarified that court statement, saying he asked for the exams because of concerns that Solay claims God is talking to her and telling her to do things.
Solay is allowed to have weekly supervised visits with her children.
